Again, ECOWAS Delegation Led By Ex-Military Ruler, Abdulsalami Fails To Meet Niger Junta
A delegation from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on Saturday, 19 th August, 2023, failed to meet the leader of Niger military junta, General Abdourahamane Tchiani.
The delegation led by former Nigerian Military Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd.), was received by Prime Minister Ali Lamine Zeine.
Earlier in August, a team from the regional bloc ECOWAS, also led by Abubakar, left the Republic of Niger without meeting the leader of the junta which seized power in a coup or the deposed President Mohamed Bazoum.
According to BBC Hausa as monitored by Daily Trust, the meeting with the representative of Niger lasted about 90 minutes.
Earlier today, SaharaReporters reported that a delegation from ECOWAS had arrived in Niger in a last-ditch effort to peacefully resolve the standoff with the coup leaders in the country.
