How Hon. Hope .O .Ikiriko, Chairman, Ahoada West Local Government Area, Allowed The People To Suffer During 2022 Flooding
The reason why people of Ahoada West local government Area may not forgive their Council Chairmen, Hon. (Evang.) Hope O Ikiriko, for the suffering they are all passing through, as a result of the flood, is that, he had enough time to have prepared for the flood.
From past experience, coupled with the warnings from NEMA and other related agencies of the Federal Government, concerning the flood they predicted would be ravaging, the Council Chairman could have identified and isolated higher grounds, private and public structures to be used as IDP camps and equipped them with the required facilities.

If this had been done, the people could have been easily and gradually evacuated to the already prepared camps and settlements without these fire brigade approach that is endangering the lives of the people and at the same time exposing the ineptitude of the Council Chairman.
It is noteworthy that until the Rivers State governor announced the setting up of the flood committee for Ahoada West and Omoku/Ndoni/Egbema Local government Area, there was no effort by Evangelist Hope Ikiriko to evacuate and settle the would be displaced victims. All he did was announcement of creation of IDP camps at Mbiama, Akinima, Okegbe and Ubie.
A visit to those announced designated areas as at the time of the announcement, showed no sign of IDP camp except for the banners strategically placed with the inscription “IDP Camp “

Specifically, on the 2nd of October, 2022, while the flood was fast approaching and the people of Ahoada West local government Area were forcefully harvesting their crops and scampering to build high alters to serve as their bed, the Executive chairman was busy attending child dedications and birthday celebrations. These were the time a proactive and responsive leader would have used to set up committees with specific directives to ameliorate the suffering of the people.

Thank God the flood is receding but, it will come again by this time next year. Whether the Council Chairman would wait until it comes before he will commence his fire brigade approach, only time will tell.
