Pakistan: Derailed Passenger Train Kills 15, Injures 50 Others

At least 15 were killed while 50 others were injured on Sunday when around 10 cars of a passenger train derailed in Southern Pakistan.

The train derailed near Sahara railway station in the city of Nawabshah in the Southern Sindh province, roughly 275 km (171 miles) from the country’s largest city Karachi, Reuters reports.

A railway official, Mohsin Syal, was quoted as saying: “The Hazara Express was travelling from Karachi to Abbottabad, eight coaches have derailed.”

It was reported that accidents on Pakistan’s decaying rail system are common and successive governments have for years been trying to secure funds to upgrade the rail network as part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative for infrastructure projects.
