Transfer: Arsenal in ‘good position’ to sign Gundogan – Mertesacker

Arsenal Academy director, Per Mertesacker has claimed the club is in a “good position” to sign Manchester City’s captain, Ilkay Gundogan this summer.
Gundogan played an important role as City ended the season with a Treble.
The 32-year-old is out of contract at the end of June and has been linked with Arsenal, Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund.
City also want to keep Gundogan beyond this season, with Pep Guardiola making it clear that he wants his captain to stay.
But Mertesacker feels the Gunners have a good chance of luring his compatriot.
Speaking as a pundit for German broadcaster ZDF after the Champions League final, Mertesacker said: “I think the clubs are queuing.
“Because [Mikel] Arteta knows him, and we probably haven’t broken off contact, we’re in a good position.
“I think he’ll let it all sink in first and then choose from one of the four clubs.”
