Rivers State : Insecurity rises as cultists kill 4 local vigilante members, behead and cut off private parts of two

Gunmen suspected to be cultists have killed four persons in Rundele community, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.
It was gathered that the suspected cultists invaded the community with a tricycle and an eighteen-seater commercial bus on Monday night, May 29, 2023, whisking away some men alive.Â
The victims identified as Endurance Nmekini, two brothers, Onyema Kekwaru and Ejike Kekwaru, and one other were all members of local vigilante groups.
According to reports, two of them were beheaded and their private parts chopped off.Â
The source disclosed that the suspected cultists, who invaded the community were some indigenes who were chased out for being members of cult groups terrorizing the community at the time.
The criminals who were fully armed reportedly arrived in the community, and they declared that they were returning to reclaim their territory.
The spokesperson for the State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, who confirmed the incident attributed the killings to a clash between suspected cult groups in the area.Â
The PPRO, in a statement confirmed that four people died in the attack.
Iringe-Koko in a statement, disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Nwonyi Polycarp, has ordered tactical units to be deployed to the area with a view to arresting the perpetrators while investigation is ongoing.
