Of what value is a Nobel laurel in fictional writing to us? – by George Anitor
Of what value is a Nobel laurel in fictional writing to us?
Yes, he is an institution to small minds. He added no economic or tangible value to our third world status. His worthless fiction can never be compared to Isaac Newton, Michael Faraday, George Stevenson, and numerous inventors who impacted society positively.
We are in a dire strait in need of those who would raise our economy and living standard. Not those who would back thieves and drug pushers relying on tribal sentiments.
In our villages, there are numerous story tellers yet unsong whose only difference is that being illiterates, their stories die with them unpublished.
Wole Soyinka had grammar that adds nothing to our lives. Let him retire into his world of fiction and allow well meaning people to proffer meaningful solutions to our social malady in the real world.
