A leader who refuses to delegate functions is bound to fail as he wouldn’t be able to accomplish set goals on time.
Governor Wike could have gone to the market with the 1 billion naira approved by the state government, for the flood victims, buy all the items and began visiting all the affected communities, distributing them but he never did that, he set up a committee.
In Ahoada West local government Area, the executive chairman, Hon. (Evang) Hope O Ikiriko, who is also a member of the committee set up by the state governor, was expected to do same, set up committees consisting of the councillors of the 12 wards, community chiefs, youth leaders and the three First Class traditional Rulers for effective and on time evacuation of victims to high grounds and delivery of the items to them but no. He did nothing of such.
He is the committee, with some of his errand boys and girls. He does the delivery himself because he trusts no one. The difficulty in accessing the various settlements make persons in other settlements starve and suffer while Ikiriko attends to one settlement. This is something that could have been done simultaneously if he had set up committees with strategic plans to access the various settlements most of which are established by communities and concern citizens.
if his reason for not setting up committees is for people not to know how much or what materials were brought to Ahoada West people and how they were distributed , then, it is very uncomfortable. Secrecy is one of the attributes of unfaithful and corrupt leaders. I hope this is not the case in Ahoada West local government Area.
