The Supremacy fight between Gov. Obaseki and Oshiomhole over who controles Edo State, got to the climax today as Gov. Obaseki was disqualified by the Screening Committee from participating in the governorship primaries slated for June 22, 2020.
Obaseki and five other aspirants were screened by the committee earlier this week to validate their credentials and grant them clearance to vie for the party’s ticket to contest in the September 19 governorship election.
However, when the seven-member committee led by Professor Jonathan Ayuba presented its report to the party’s National Working Committee today, Friday, June 12, the committee said Obaseki and two other candidates were not cleared.
Prof. Jonathan Ayuba said the governor did not present his Higher School Leaving Certificate.
Ayuba also stated that the committee could not ascertain the authenticity of his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate.
According to Ayuba, the committee recommended that Gov. Obaseki is not eligible to contest in the election.
Dr. Pius Odubu and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu were cleared to contest.
Gov. Obaseki had earlier on Wednesday, expressed fears that he might not get justice from the screening committee as the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, was involved in the process.
